8 2019 European Suzuki Viola Gathering Spain Peter King community assisting in its plan- ning, including the ESA Office and Board. Juan Drown (UK) and Jo- anne Martin (France/Canada) have agreed to act as joint Musical Di- rectors. The organisers are Admin- istrator Peter King (France/ Canada), Mona Kodama (UK) and Celia Bornemann (Spain). The or- ganising committee of ESVG 2019 is especially grateful for the sup- port and assistance of the Feder- ación Española del Método Suzuki . Registration is well underway with over 100 registrants at this time. But there is room for many more to attend! See our web page on http:// www.federacionmetodosuzuki.es for f urther details about ESVG 2019, including information on lo- cal travel & accommodation plus programme and registration infor- mation. For any questions about the event, including participation and regis- tration, please contact the Admin- istrator, Peter King, at esvg2019@gmail.com there will be “meet the viola” for parents and “viola for violinists” classes, so that attendees will be able to experience the instrument themselves, literally at first hand. The ESVG program will schedule sessions for viola teachers to meet and to play together, and for teachers and parents to meet, exchange mutual experiences, and learn from each other. ESVG will also include teacher-led semi- nars on a variety of topics of inter- est to Suzuki violists, and will pro- vide numerous opportunities for ESA trainees and others to ob- serve a wide range of viola clas- ses. On Saturday evening, attendees will enjoy a viola recital. The clos- ing concert will include everyone who has played the viola during the weekend, including those who have done so for the first time. In 2017 over 180 violists played Twinkle at the final concert, and we hope for more in 2019! Costs for ESVG are deliberately being kept as low as possible in order to make it possible for many European Viola teachers, pupils and families to attend. As at ESVG 2017, all who attend ESVG 2019 (pupils, parents, teachers and ob- servers) will pay their own ex- penses. Those who teach classes at ESVG will do so on a volunteer basis. We are very fortunate in our loca- tion. El Escorial, best known for its beautiful Monasterio, is easily accessible by train and bus from Madrid and from the Madrid air- port. ESVG 2019 will be held at the Casa E. San José, which offers excellent classroom and concert hall facilities, plus reasonably priced meals and comfortable on- site accommodation. ESVG 2019 has an active support ESVG 2019 , the second European Suzuki Viola Gathering, will take place in El Escorial, near Madrid, Spain, February 15-17, 2019. ESVG 2019 is the successor to the very successful ESVG 2017, held in Watford in February 2017. Like its predecessor, our goal for ESVG 2019 is to provide an oppor- tunity for Suzuki violists to meet, play music, discuss, and learn in a welcoming, non-competitive envi- ronment. Players of other instru- ments who would like to know what is happening in the Suzuki vio- la community are welcome. We welcome observers and teachers of other instruments, as well as mem- bers of Suzuki Associations from around the world. The European Suzuki Viola Gather- ing is less formal than many tradi- tional Suzuki workshops. ESVG 2019 is designed to build communi- ty and to give Suzuki Viola greater visibility within the larger Suzuki community. The program for ESVG 2019 is built around the Suzuki Tri- angle, with activities specifically oriented towards violists, parents, and teachers (including observers). There will of course also be many occasions for everyone to meet to- gether, both formally and informal- ly. In addition to viola group classes and viola ensembles at all levels,
